Beihoff's office will remain at the Post Gazette's Downtown headquarters.

"I wouldn't have done this if I had to leave Pittsburgh," he said.

Beihoff, a 30-year veteran of the newspaper business who got his start selling classified ads in Milwaukee, became the Post-Gazette's advertising director in 1994, general manager of The Blade in 1995, and general manager of the Post-Gazette in 1999. In his new role, he will be responsible for advising the newspapers on strategic planning, operations and market positioning.

Asked about his goals, Beihoff said, "I'd like to see both papers continue to grow and maintain themselves as quality newspapers that meet the needs of readers and advertisers."
